our intention is to honor the "living memories" of sister dorothy stang and morihei ueshiba. aikido of notre dame de namur seeks to inspire and train peaceful warriors to honor and
cherish all life and love by strengthening and polishing the loving spirits of “servant
leaders” who will promote social justice and activism, advocate oneness with
Nature, and manifest peace. our aikido club began as a
thought and a conversation shared by
two friends, stuart "eli" latimerlo and charles vezinaw, who both share
a
passion for aikido. "unified intention" turned into action prompting
us to invite another friend mary oleksy to join us, and aikido
of notre dame de namur is the collaborative result. we
truly hope this website is inspiring and informative, and we encourage
you to join us and experience an aikido class for yourself.

“Foster and polish the warrior spirit while serving in the
world; illuminate the Path in
accordance with the Divine Will.” “Taketama o yashinai migake yo no naka ni michi o terase yo kami no manimani.” -Morihei Ueshiba universities
are fertile soil for the hearts and minds of students to sprout. colleges and universities represent ideal
forums for advocating social justice & activism, environmental awareness
and peace. the challenge lies in actively preparing and training students to maintain integrity under intense scrutiny, tremendous social pressures, and even violent opposition when venturing out into different landscapes and harsher conditions away from the university. aikido training actively prepares and trains students physically, mentally and spiritually to maintain integrity and provides both unique and practical approaches to this challenge. |
